August News Log - Otto IX, Anniversary Event, Handbook Release & ASTD Update

Hi everyone, as it's been a while since our last developer update, we'd like to share what we've been working on over the last few months and have a look at what's in store for the upcoming weeks!

Otto IX & Anniversary Meet-Up

Let's start with our next game world relaunch: We're planning to introduce the ninth iteration of our short-term server Otto on 18 August 2022, so you can look forward to starting over with your airline really soon! All configuration details will be listed on the blog as usual.

Just a month later, we're celebrating in real life as we get together in Frankfurt for our AirlineSim anniversary meet-up on 24 September 2022. Join us for a round of plane spotting at Frankfurt Airport, talks and presentations about the past and the future of the project, and of course some original Hessian cider (or beverage of your choice) in the city!

If you'd like to come, please book your tickets via eventbrite. See you soon!

The New Handbook

Up next: Our latest release, the AirlineSim handbook! After taking some time to restructure the old wikis, our game documentation is now ready for you to explore. We also included a beginner's guide, so if you're new to the game, here's where you can find help as you set up your first airline!

For more details, you can check out the blog post from earlier this week or head over to the handbook directly: https://handbook.airlinesim.aero/en/

AS Technology Demonstrator Development

Just as planned, development of the AirlineSim Techology Demonstrator has entered its main phase after Martin's parental leave. Before that, development was focused on the so-called Distribution System, the heart and brain of the Technology Demonstrator. Now we have started to work on the actual game, meaning the server running the simulation as well as the frontend that players are going to interact with. As promised, we will open access to a very early preview of this new system as soon as it's technically feasible. So stay tuned!
